About the Artist

I’m a traditional graphite portrait artist focused on one thing above all else: likeness.

 

 When I see a photo of a pet or a person, I know it needs to be drawn. I use a physical print as a reference — slowing the process down and keeping it tactile, intentional, and honest.

 

I enjoy the technical challenge of portrait drawing just as much as the result. If my drawing is of someone instantly recognizable, I have to get the rendering right, or else no one but me will know who it is. When a viewer knows who it is without being told, that’s when I consider a portrait successful.

 

I primarily draw celebrity portraits for that reason — familiar faces leave no room for error. Every drawing is done traditionally in pencil, with no digital shortcuts.

 

I picked up a pencil again about 10 years ago, after being in and out of the hospital and mostly on bed rest, healing from bilateral leg amputations. Drawing helped me heal by being able to escape from reality for a little while, and listen to music of course!
